About FAMA

In the wake of the powerful earthquake, which devastated the capital of Haiti and surrounding areas, your support of FAMA is needed now more than ever. FAMA is a small organization with the ability to help fill gaps left by large relief organizations. This is a disaster of unimaginable devastation that will require help from individuals and organizations. FAMA’s clinic is run by Adrien Alexander, a certified EMT, who has operated the clinic in Petite-Rivière for 8 years. He is assisted by a volunteer doctor and dentist from Les Cayes and two paid nurses. FAMA's needs have increased as survivors moved to this rural area. FAMA’s commitment to providing medical care existed long before the disaster and, with your assistance, will continue to serve the people of Haiti . FAMA is a unique organization in that there is no overhead allowing 100% of donations to be used to pay the nursing staff and to buy much needed medical supplies and medication. FAMA stands for Famile Amour en Action or Family of Love in Action; your contribution will enable us to continue to reach out to let these extraordinary people know that they are loved in this time of dire need.

Mission Statement  FAMA is committed to improving health and economic conditions for Haitians living in Petite-Rivière, Haiti and surrounding areas.

Past

Famille Amour en Action, Inc (FAMA) was founded in June 2001 by Jean Crizauld Francois, a Haitian-American living in West Hartford, Connecticut, USA. With a large team of supporters the Clinic was opened in Petite-Rivière, Saint-Jean-du-Sud, Haiti in August 2002. This is the only healthcare facility in the region which has faithfully served a population of approximately 35, 000 since its doors opened.

Present

Through the years FAMA has remained a unique organization. Volunteers in the States donate their time and resources so that every dime donated is sent to Haiti where the money is carefully managed by Adrien Alexandre, the Director of the Clinic. The money is used to pay salaries, purchase supplies and to stock the pharmacy.

Since the January 2010 earthquake, thousands more are settling in this rural village. It is, therefore, critical that we repair the structural damage to our rented Clinic building. Property has been donated to FAMA. We are, therefore, beginning a new campaign to build a hospital, with Xray and laboratory equipment, an operating room, and inpatient beds.

Under the supervision of RBH Designs, LLC industrial sewing machines and electrical supplies have been purchased to begin a sewing school in Petite-Rivière.   The ultimate goal is to provide jobs with fair wages.

Future

FAMA is committed to expanding its role to better serve the Haitian people in this time of dire need. We are dedicated to remaining a grassroots, volunteer-based organization, free from wasted resources on unnecessary bureaucracy. All money will be used to expand FAMA's role in the local community by providing increased medical care, a sewing school, and eventual building of a state-of-the-art production house for sewn goods. FAMA's goals are to support the people in this area by providing excellent healthcare, job creation, and encouraging entrepreneurial and artisan endeavors, to provide a foundation for self-empowered economic relief.
